Within the framework of Phase 2 of the Emergency Responsiveness Initiative in Tyre Caza, that
focuses on enhancing capacities and improving effectiveness and efficiency of preparedness and
response mechanisms during disasters, the Union of Tyre Municipalities (UoTM) and the Rapid
Response Unit (RRU) in particular, have selected the area known as the old part of Tyre city near
the sea port for the implementation of a model area for community preparedness in response to
disasters.
Objectives of Action:
Enhance the resilience and the disaster response capacity at the community level in the target area by
spreading awareness and preparedness among various groups of the local society.
Results of Action:
– Risks identified and develop baseline maps developed for the area covering existing human and
material resources, infrastructure and locations relevant to DRR work.
– Hazard maps for the area developed.
– Raised awareness on rapid response and preparedness during disasters at community level and
conducted Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions to identified community members.
